2015: Still "no" phones with wireless charging?

A few years back when I discovered wireless charging, I was amazed. Today I got my Nexus 5 standing on my Tylt VU stand here on my desk. Very convenient.

I was very disappointed when they announced the next Nexus without wireless charging! I cancelled my order as soon as I found out. However, I have not been able to find any phones (except for the Galaxy S6) that have been released so far this year with wireless charging?! What's up with that? Am I missing something? Anyone know of a phone that does have it that I must have missed?

The LG G4 can with the correct back, The S6 (as you said) / the Note 5 / The Galaxy S6 Edge phones can, and that is all I can think of right now. The new Nexus device didn't receive wireless charging due to the statement below (this is quoted from a Google AMA on Reddit).

Was it a conscious decision to leave out Qi wireless charging?

We added Qi wireless charging starting with N4 because plugging in USB micro B was such a hassle! (Which way is up!?) With this year's Nexii, we support USB Type-C which has a reversible connector so there's no more guessing. AND it charges incredibly swiftly: 1% to 100% in 97 mins on the 6P for example (the first ~45 mins of charging is especially fast). Meanwhile, wireless charging adds z (thickness). So, ease of plugging in + fast charging + optimizing for thinness made us double down on Type-C instead of wireless!

That's is a dumb excuse. It is much more convenient to have wireless charging.

It seems pretty legit to me. They didn't want the phone to be bigger so they went for the more "sleek" look and left it out.

its sad when phone's looks are the priority and not the features... happens all the time.

Well in the past they went for features -- and so many people complained about the look & feel so .. They decided to change it up. Now some others aren't happy.

At the end of the day they will go with the majority -- they know some will not be happy since you can't please everyone.

Everything I've read about wireless charging says it's not as efficient as a wired connection, so speed could be an issue. And the excuse for USB C being no longer having to guess which way is up seems lame to me. I've never had to guess, and rarely even look at the plug to know I've got it right. I'm a HUGE fan of QC2.0 charging, despite heat issues it sometimes causes. My ideal charging setup? Something reasonably fast, but also durable. Not sure about USB C, but micro USB was about the worst thing for charging in my opinion. The plugs and ports are just not able to hold up to every day use as well as older, proprietary, charging cables and ports could.

I think there'd still some debate on whether or not these new Nexus phones support Quick Charge 2.0.

I hate how Google is basically advertising that USB Type C is the reason for "fast charging" when it's just a connector spec.
