How do I RE-set the lock password with Andriod Device Manager?

My samsung galaxy tab2 was locked using the Android Device Manager. I forget the password, and now when I go to "Lock" and type in a new password I get a message saying "Google has detected that your device was already locked, therefore this password is not necessary" Basically saying Use the old password, which I don't know.
How can I re-set this without wiping my entire device?
Thanks.

Welcome to Android Central! Moved to the General Help forum. You can't actually change the password to your device using Android Device Manager in this situation. You need to remember your password. What happens if you fail the password enough times--does it ask you for your Google credentials?

I'm sorry, I'm not sure I can help you there. You could try Samsung's FindMyMobile, but I don't think that will let you reset the password remotely.

In the future, if you're prone to forgetting passwords, write them down and keep them some place secure at home, like a safe.
