There seamed to be a lot of speculation about how much battery you could save by switching to dark wallpaper and themes on an AMOLED phone (AMOLED phones aren't back lit. Instead each pixel gives out light so a black pixel uses less power than a white pixel).
But there wasn't much in the way of hard numbers so I decided to get a bit scientific and do some experiments.
Long story short, I save about 20% by using dark themed apps and launcher. Your mileage may vary but I've written it all up and you can plug your own numbers in to see what you get:
