Why does my phone keep updating after update?

My phone updated yesterday morning. But the update icon stayed so I did it again. It updated and still the update never left so I did it again. The phone is still telling me to update it. Is that normal to have to update more than once?

Welcome.

It's normal for a phone which is running an earlier version of the OS when you buy it to update through several versions of it until the latest available one for it has been downloaded and installed, if that's what you mean.

Yes, as long you're talking about a succession of updates, rather than the same one which for some reason is failing to download and install successfully.
I updated a Nexus 4 from Kitkat 4.4.4 some time ago....it went through several updates one after the other until it reached the latest version of the OS available for it, Lollipop 5.1.1. So the succession was something like 5.0, 5.0.1, 5.02, 5.1, 5.1.1. In my own case I was notified of each and therefore had the option to accept or decline the updates....perhaps your phone is set to update automatically.

And I updated it for a 4th time and it worked. Nothing has changed so we are all good this time.
