This is for my mother who is not very technical, and I want to make it as simple as possible to use an Android smartphone as "mostly a phone". I figured the best way to accomplish this would be to have the standard phone app buttons (0-9#*, connect, disconnect, etc) on the first home screen. It might also be a job for a live wallpaper.

Does anyone know of a simple way to do this, or is anyone willing to build something like this for a small reward?

    Thanks all!

There are some custom launchers in the Play Store specially designed for seniors. Big icons, simplified layout, easy dialer and such. Take a look at them.

That sounds perfect, thanks Javier! This will be a rooted phone, are there more options than launchers for rooted devices?

Not sure how rooting your phone could help. You could also try a dialer widget instead of a launcher. Take a look at this one and similar.

Thanks again, I didn't even know dialer widgets existed, so I didn't even bother to search the play store. I think I'll start with this, and then maybe add a launcher if it's still to difficult for her.
