Let my phone sleep or power it off overnight. Advantage to one or the other?

AC Question

I've learned from many posts that the power button is the most fragile and most likely to break of the physical parts of the phone. It seems to me that the charging process works more effectively if nothing at all is running on the phone -- it is powered off by using the button. If I just set it to sleep, I wake in the morning to a message that it turned off and locked after four hours of inactivity, even in the presence of my wi-fi network. But that doesn't seem tobe the same as powering off with the button.

Can someone correct and instruct me on all this?
