Welcome to Android Central! Hangouts can also send Hangouts instant messages, which is Google's own instant messaging system. These can be sent over mobile data or wi-fi, whereas SMS has to be sent over the voice signal, and MMS has to be sent over mobile data. So Hangouts can be helpful if you have wi-fi but a poor cell signal. However, the recipient also has to be on Hangouts.

The Hangouts app can be a little glitchy for some people. It can also be a little confusing, since you have to make sure you're sending the message the way you want (i.e., SMS vs Hangout instant message). Sometimes people end up unintentionally sending a message as a Hangout rather than SMS, and the recipient might never check their Hangouts, so they aren't aware of the message.

Ok, but when you have Google Fi service and a Nexus 6P, which app should you use? Messaging or Hangouts. When you use Messaging App, will the history show on other Hangouts devices logged into the same Google Fi account?

    Thanx in aadvance!
