I just realised having bought a new note 4 that android phone do not seem to have a inbuilt dictionary. The apple iPhone for example has one in which if you press and hold down on a word it comes up with the meaning of it; an inbuilt dictionary which opens the word with its meaning. I may be wrong buy if I am can anyone please tell me how to set it up on a Samsung galaxy note 4? Thanks in advance.

Google Now on tap is pretty close, but that is essentially a shortcut to a search for the selected word. It works off web pages on Chrome (not sure where else), but I don't think it will work off other apps like text messages.
