How can I make my Fingerprint ID better recognizable?

Fingerprint id problem

I have set the lock screen to recognise either my thumbprint or forefinger but it only recognises them on about 1 in 30 swipes. Any tips on this would be good, and can some explain the meaning of "swipe entire pad" please.

When you swipe are you starting on the glass of the phone and then sliding down? I would recommend putting in multiple images of the same finger print. I would have two for my thump and two for another finger. That should eliminate most of the errors.
