I'm receiving ghost t text messages

Today, my phone is starting to have a group of my contact list in my text messages as though there's been conversation. .yet when I click on it. .it acts as if I'm composing a new message to someone I never attempted to compose??!! It's so hard to describe. Help

Welcome to Android Central! Which device? Is there an active group text going on that you've already participated in, or does it seem that a new group text is pinging you for the first time?

Is your mobile data turned on? Group texting typically goes by MMS, which requires mobile data, not the voice signal or wi-fi.
