The reason I am asking is because after transferring photos from my friend's old phone to her new phone Google photos has created duplicates of all her whatsapp images.. I am not sure why this happened as google photos is supposed to know which files are duplicates, but it did.. not only that it made them all appear as having been taken on the same day (day of transfer). So now she has all her whatsapp images (duplicates) appearing on the 13th of April..

Is there a solution to this? Has anyone else had it happen to them? Thank you!

Does your friend need the photos stored locally? If they're stored in the Google Photos cloud, and they're duplicated there, just delete the dupes. The originals will still be safely stored in the cloud. If your friend wants them locally stored as well, he or she can always use the Google Photos app to download the photos.
