Why does the stock calendar constantly synch?

Even after I force stop the calendar storage it turns back on again. It stays on for hours and drains my battery. Does anyone know what I can do to stop this?

Calendar syncing should not be draining your battery.

What device is this? What (exact) version of Android OS? (Settings -> About -> Android Version)

Which Calendar app?

Are you syncing to a Microsoft Exchange Server email account?

Doesn't it heavily depend on usage too?... what apps you have and how you have your apps set up. If you have apps that need to communicate back and forth with the calendar and scheduling, I could see a scenario like yours.
