AC Question

Hey i havr oneplus3 since a week now, and I really love it. But one tiny thing is really annoying. Not on all but maybe 70% of all Youtube Video don't have a higher Resolution than 480p to choose. I look on my pc and there I can watch the Videos on 1440p. Does anybody have a solution for this?

YouTube app new update disabled 720p on most phones

Hey guys!

Since the new YT App update I can't select 720p on most videos on my LG K8, but I could before the update :(
Why?

I'm having this issue as well. I just got my LG G5 yesterday, having been using the HTC One M8. On my M8 I wasn't having any issues, but on the G5 I am. Only videos that I know are available in 1440p are letting me go higher than 480p. Videos from Unbox Therapy and MKBHD. Anything else is limited to 480p, even if I just watched it Friday in 1080p 60fps.

Welcome to Android Central! Not seeing that on my 6P. Is this on both wi-fi and mobile data? Open YouTube, tap Menu>Settings>General, and make sure "Limit mobile data usage" is not turned on.

It doesn't matter if I'm on wifi or my LTE data. And limit data usage is turned off. I've tried clearing the cache, data, uninstalling updates, restarting my device. Nothing works. I just got this LG G5 yesterday, the HTC One M8 I was using had no issues. Made sure my firmware was up to date, it is.

Hmm, not sure what's going on here. The fact that it's occurring on 3 different phones means that it clearly isn't a device-specific issue. Does this persist in Safe Mode?

I know there's been similar bugs in the past related to YouTube updating. If it's the same thing happening to you, go to the app manager and into the YouTube app. Choose to both uninstall updates and clear app data. Then go to Play and update it again, and that may fix your problem.

Resolutions higher than 480 are available to me on YouTube on my Moto X Pure Edition on Verizon. I'll check my other devices.

I wouldn't expect a reply from Google quickly (or even at all). But I still think it's a good idea to give them the feedback, because the more they get, the more they'll look into it.

FYI, I merged a couple of threads about the same topic.

Hmm... no problems here LG V10-Verizon.

Have you tried deleting the YT app entirely, clearing cache and any "remnants" of it and then re-installing?

Is it all videos that do this? YT does have a delayed reaction when creators upload higher res vids. The 360P-480p content loads first and then the higher resolutions load some considerable time later. How much delay there is between them can vary greatly.

I've removed and reinstalled all YouTube data. Issue remains. It's most videos. I just got my LG G5. Was using the HTC One M8. On the M8, I had no problems. Videos I watched in 1080p on the M8, only show 480p on the G5. Some channels, Unbox Therapy, MKBHD, ShadowBeatzInc, they let me go from 144p to 1440p. Others, like jahovaswitniss, BDoubleO100, and KYRSP33DY only show up to 480p, despite having already watched their content in 720/1080 on the M8.

Without clicking on all of them (for fear of Google re-profiling my viewing preferences)... I did click on one of KYRSP33DYs vids and the highest resolution option I got was 720p. The other thing I noticed is that particular video had no advertising. I wonder if this is Googles way of rewarding those uploaders who allow ads? (admittedly I am biased, in my mind nothing good has come to YT since google took it over)

It seems to only be affecting a small handful of devices. I saw a post from last month with someone having the same issue on the S7. This has happened a couple times in the past as well. An update comes out, and suddenly a group of devices, usually the newest flagships from what I've seen, are limited to 480p with 90% of the videos on YouTube.

Just checked my Honor 5X. I can do resolutions higher than 480 on YouTube videos that allow it.

Note: I'm also a Google Play Music/YouTube Red subscriber, if that matters.
