Why can't my Nokia X battery work ?

So, I have a Nokia X android phone which is rooted. One day, it just went off all of a sudden while i was using it and the battery was nowhere near dying. then it came back on the battery was almost dead! Then it happened many times again. then i found a soultion. as long as i dont do any heavy stuff in the phone it wouldnt happen. so, it was fine for a few days. then yesterday i was connecting the phone with usb to my laptop when it happened again! However, this time, for the first time, when it came back on, the battery was showing a red bar. Now, the phone after charging for sometime goes off and the whole process starts again. Also, when i remove the phone while charging it goes off and the battery dies completely. What is going on?
