I am new to Android, I just got an S7 and I am curious how for example the Samsung "My Files" file manager abstracts the the path "My Files/Images" ? This seems to contain both the "/storage/emulated/0/Pictures" and the WhatsApp images in "/storage/emulated/0/WhatsApp/Media/WhatsApp Images" location?

Are these abstractions application specific or is this a general Android thing?

Thanks

Welcome to Android Central! I don't know for sure, but I suspect that the Images option in My Files will aggregate all directories where image files are found. I've seen other stock file managers do this kind of thing, like the one on the ASUS ZenFone 2. This is not a general Android thing -- the basic file explorer app that is available on some (but not all) Android devices (in the Settings>Storage menu) simply shows you the actual directory structure.
