Re the 'no sound alarm' problem: I just phoned my providers, they said as long as the 'media' volume is up it should work fine, which seems to be true.
They tried all sorts and then they asked me to press the on and off button (on the right together with the lower volume button (lower one on top left), and that did the trick!!
