The LG V30, in addition to being an awesome phone, has a high quality DAC and amp, giving it wired audio output comparable to that of a dedicated mid-tier DAP. It's great when you only need to carry one device! But... the purpose of this post is to alert the community to the fact that there is a problem with the V30's audio which (outside of headfi.org) seems to have gone completely unnoticed. The bug affects the V20 too, and LG seems to have ignored the problem there too. The issue is that the HiFi DAC is unable to natively playback 44 kHz, 16-bit audio files (the most popular sample-rate/bit-depth combination and what 99% of you will be using). Instead, it re-samples them to 48 kHz. The effect on sensitive headphones is easily audible and quite unpleasant. There are workarounds for this, via the use of certain third-party apps:

However, most commonly-used third party apps (Tidal, YouTube, Google Play Music) and even LG's own music app suffer from this problem. I tried contacting LG support about this and the person I got on the phone didn't even know what a sample-rate was :-( If anybody here has any connections or influence with LG, please pass this information along. The V30 is a really great phone, but it would be so much better if we didn't have to worry about this silly and totally unnecessary re-sampling.
