We've just moved to a house really close to a cell tower, and the speeds on my phone get close to 100mbps. However the WiFi tether caps out at 50.

I was thinking about using an USB-Ethernet interface but i don't even know what setup I would need for that. Is there a way I can make it any faster? I don't know what protocol i'm even using (b/g/n)

Which phone are you using? It's possible that it's only capable of serving a 50 Mbps connection.

According to Qualcomm, the chipset used in the Tribute 5 (Snapdragon 210) should be capable of 150 Mbps WiFi connections, but it doesn't specify whether it's capable of serving WiFi at the same rate.

How did you measure connection speed?

It could be a limitation of the device you're connecting to it, too.

EDIT: here's the Qualcomm page detailing the capabilities of the S210 chipset: https://www.qualcomm.com/products/sn...processors/210

and the LG page with specs on the Tribute 5: http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phones/lg-...rint-tribute-5
