Ok, sorry if this has already been asked, i did a search and really didn't see what I wanna ask.

I have a brand new Note 9...now, with my previous phone...the S7 edge, I think I made the mistake of charging it too often and too early, percentage wise....I work at a desk most of the day and I would get to work and immediately plug my phone in and leave it most of the day. Towards the end of my time with that phone, I was lucky if I made it til lunch without having to charge it because it would be below 50%. If i didn't, the phone would be dead by 3:30pm....i start work at 7. I don't want to make the same mistake.

So, my question is, at what percentage do most of you decide to charge your phone?

I usually charge before bed, around 40/30%, unless I'm doing something that afternoon after work. Then I'll top off. I don't want to leave my phone charging overnight. Once fully charged I want to take it off the charger. I've had the S8 since launch and I still have pretty fantastic battery life.

As you'll see if you read the Battery University article carefully, it's best to charge when the battery is down to about 50% (40% won't hurt it too much) and stop when it reaches about 90%. GSam Battery Monitor makes it easy - just set the high and low alarms.

I know from experience most phone batteries won't make it a year left on a charger 24/7, many of the display phones I've dealt with from Verizon swelled up and bulged forcing the phones to split open. Since the release of fast charging in 2014 I've seen no reason to leave my phone plugged in over night, I always unplug everything when it hits 100%

Even my windows devices like my surface pro I unplug when they hit 100%, I'm not risking unnecessary battery damage. Surface Pro 3 I bought in 2014 still has good battery life, very small loss in capacity according to the battery report. My original Note 10 bought in 2013 still gets 20+ days on a charge using it as an alarm clock.

I usually charge my phone when it comes to 10% or 15% because somewhere I heard that charging your phone frequently when I don't get to 10% or low is not the good habit that damages the mobile's battery

I haven't even actively been using my phone yet, just checking it out at home and trying to learn how to use it. When it gets around 50%, I plug it in overnight and unplug in the morning. I thought it was safe and the phone would stop charging when charge was complete.

You are correct that it's safe. No charging device is going to overcharge the battery. To do so would be extremely idiotic programming of the charging circuit and a huge liability to the manufacturer.

The concern with overnight charging is it leaves the phone at a high state of charge. That is generally considered above 75% or so, and that's when accelerated deterioration happens. Even if you disconnected the battery at 100% and put it in a box on a shelf, you would still see that deterioration. Li-ion batteries like a happy medium, which is why most recommendations are to keep it between 40-80% for the best overall life.
