I have been trying to factory reset my sons Samsung Galaxy S7 and it wont boot to restore mode even when holding the volume up, home, and power button. Im not sure how to test the volume buttons to see if they are working properly. Any advice would be appreciated.

Can you boot the phone into 'normal' mode? You can test the volume buttons there. Does the Volume down + Home + Power combo work (ODIN mode)? Just in case, remember that you have to press and hold all three keys until you boot into the required mode, so try to press and hold volume up and home and while pressing then press and hold on the power button until you see the Recovery Mode.

If not, and you CAN still access the phone, you can do the same (factory reset) directly from the phone's Settings.
