So, as the title says, I've been getting full screen ads randomly popping up throughout my day. I've tried looking in the recent apps to try and identify the perpetrator but the app has no icon and disappears almost immediately. I've looked through the running services and don't seem to find anything out of the ordinary. Im kind of at my wits end and I'm hoping that one of you lovely people may assist me, please and thank you!

If it helps I'm using a Samsung S9 with Android P.

Welcome to the forums. Yeah, some of those apps manage to remove their record from the recent apps making it more difficult to detect. They should appear in the running services and memory usage screens in the Developer Options though.

Have you already tried the 'Show cached processes' option under running services (three dots top right)?

Samsung devices usually have many processes running in the background making the search more difficult. You could take a screenshot of the running services screens right after getting an ad and post them here so we can take a look. Many times innocent looking apps like calculators or antivirus are the source of these ads.

Thanks for the reply. I have looked through running services and cached processes but nothing in particular is jumping out at me. I will be sure to take a screenshot on the next occurrence. Is there a time frame in which to capture the processes? I assume it won't stay on the lists too long after occurring

That depends, I've seen some of those apps running in the background all the time (frequency ~100%). You can also check the memory usage in the last 3 hours.

Better it you take 2 or 3 different screenshots.

I will post them once it occurs again, it's seems to be a completely random spacing of time because it's been quite a few hours since I've seen one.

Yes, do that. Just in case, go to settings - apps and scroll all the way down and see if there's an app without name or icon. Sometimes this kind of apps are at the very bottom of the list.

Oh boy, just in case I forgot why I don't like Samsung devices

I'll take a closer look later but a couple of processes took my attention, Lookout, Phobos Chan and MLP (My Little Pony?).

Also, there's some Instant Download for Twitter videos that looks suspicious. There's a similar app in the Play Store with several reports about annoying full screen ads. Not sure if that's the same app though .

Ugh I know, endless processes running.

Lookout is a security app that comes preloaded on TMobile service, phobos Chan is just a 4chan browser and I haven't had any issues previously though I'll disable it for now and see what happens. MLP I actually looked up because it stood out to me but it's a Samsung location service from what I've looked at.

Just looked up the reviews on the Twitter video downloader and sure enough there were quite a few reviews mentioning full screen ads so I'll give this one the boot and see if that fixes my issue. Will post back later for update. Thanks for the help!

So a bit more than 24 hours later and no ads. I think it's safe to say that the culprit was the Twitter video downloader. Thanks for the help!
