Google app auto updated a few days ago to 10.73.7.21.arm and I've noticed that now if I select some links in chrome they open in the google app instead of a new chrome tab. I believe they may be primarily ones that are linked through the google advertising redirect but not positive.

Is there a way to convince google app to chill out? I want to use chrome and that's it.

This is a A10e running Pie.

Have you tried clearing defaults in both Chrome and the Google app? Maybe a new link handler was introduced with the last update?

Sorry, can you clarify -- are you certain you're in Chrome when you tap those links that cause the Google app to open? Or did you use the Google app to begin with to do the initial search, and then tap the link there? Apologies if you clearly know, but many users assume they're in Chrome when in fact they're in the Google app.

I also moved this from the Android Apps forum to the General Help forum since the former is intended for developers to promote their apps.

When in Chome, if I google search for a product and select an Amazon link (probably others too, but since Amazon owns all product links these days...) the Google app pops up instead of a new tab. As an example, "f female to ts9 male" generates many amazon items. Clicking on any of them seems to open in google app for some reason.

What happens if you temporarily uninstall updates to the Google app. Does the problem go away?

The first time I selected the link, nothing happened (the bar moved across but no new tab). The second.click opened a new tab as expected. The 3rd time I clicked the link, it opened in the google app. Now I'm very confused. Is there any chance this is a chrome update issue?

I feel silly now. I just realized the link is now opening in the amazon app. This new phone is loaded with all kinds of crap that I will remove when I root. I'll disable the amazon app and should be good. Thanks!

It's opening in the Amazon app because it's a link to Amazon. Part of the link is &url=https://www.amazon.com/Connector-Coaxial-Flexible-Wireless-Antenna
