With 4,500 votes in, HTC is dominating the Android Central 2011 Readers Choice Awards. HTC has 5 of the Top 10 most desired phones in the US followed by Motorola with 3 and Samsung with 2. In fact, HTC has all 4 of the Top 4 phones.

The reason for HTC's success is clear: Display Size. US buyers want the new larger format phones. In fact 8 of the Top 10 phones feature 4.3" to 4.5" screens.

HTC brought the first 4.3" phone to the US with the HTC EVO 4G nearly 14 months ago. Since then HTC has had one big screen hit after another with the Inspire 4G, Thunderbolt 4G, Sensation, and most recently the EVO 3D.

The Motorola Droid X and Droid X2 are two notable contenders in the Top 20 but not popular enough to make the Top 10. LG and Kyocera have yet to have a big screen hit with the readers with no phones in even the top 20.

But just because HTC has the Top 4 most prized phones, does that equate to sales and more importantly earnings? In the past months, HTC has set new sales and earnings records month, after month, after month, after month, after month, after month.

At the same time Motorola has winners with it's 4.3" Photon, Droid X, and upcoming Bionic but Motorola contionues to promote phones like the 3.2" Xprt, 3.7" Bravo, and 3.7" Defy. Motorola reported a loss in smartphone earnings last month.

Here are the Top 10 most desired US phones in the survey so far. The larger format phones are in bold.
1. Sprint HTC EVO 3D 4.3"
2. Verizon HTC Thunderbolt 4.3"
3. Sprint HTC EVO 4G 4.3"
4. T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4.3"
5. AT&T Motorola Atrix 4"
6. AT&T Samsung Infuse 4G 4.5"
7. Sprint Motorola Photon 4.3"
8. Verizon Samsung Droid Charge 4.3"
9. Verizon Motorola Droid Bionic 4.3"
10. Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 3.7"

Here are the new Android Phones discussed so far this month on the Android Central front page:
4.5" Samsung Celox
4.5" Samsung Hercules
4.5" Motorola Droid HD
4.5" HTC Holiday
4.5" LG Revolution 2
4.3 Motorola Droid Bionic
4.3" HTC Amaze
4.3" LG Thrill
4.3" Motorola Photon
4.3" Samsung Attain
4.3" Samsung Epic Touch
4.3" Samsung Function
4.3" Samsung Gravity Smart
4.3" LG Optimus 3D
4.3" HTC Vigor 720p
4.3" Samsung Stratosphere
4.1" Motorola Triumph
3.5" Samsung Conquer
3.2" HTC Bliss
3.2" HTC Wildfire S
3.2" Motorola Pax

If the big screen theory holds true, Samsung is about to dominate HTC and Motorola with:

Samsung: 7 big, 1 small
Motorola: 4 big, 1 small
HTC: 3 big, 2 small
LG: 3 big, 0 small

Even though HTC big screens have been such success, they are now launching as many little phones as big.

The Droid Incredible, in hindsight, has certainly lived up to its name, being still in the top 10 most desired Android phones among ALL 4 CARRIERS, a YEAR AND A HALF after its release. Also, it's the smallesnt screened one in that top 10. Incredible, indeed.

interesting that the OG EVO is 3rd and over a year old... especially since it's newer, younger brother the 3D has come out :)

Because the device is 1-year old doesn't mean nothing. The 3D is 1st in the above graph and many OG Evo owners are still within their two year contracts. Doesn't surprise me at all considering the Evo was the first "4G" device to the US market and highly popular. People were lining up for the OG Evo and it was sold out for some time after its release.

HTC has done wonderful things with its UI -- despite many enthusiast not liking it for various reasons. The public likes eye candy and HTC sure delivered with the added bonus of functionality.
