With 4,500 votes in, HTC is dominating the Android Central 2011 Readers Choice Awards. HTC has 5 of the Top 10 most desired phones in the US followed by Motorola with 3 and Samsung with 2. In fact, HTC has all 4 of the Top 4 phones.
The reason for HTC's success is clear: Display Size. US buyers want the new larger format phones. In fact 8 of the Top 10 phones feature 4.3" to 4.5" screens.
HTC brought the first 4.3" phone to the US with the HTC EVO 4G nearly 14 months ago. Since then HTC has had one big screen hit after another with the Inspire 4G, Thunderbolt 4G, Sensation, and most recently the EVO 3D.
The Motorola Droid X and Droid X2 are two notable contenders in the Top 20 but not popular enough to make the Top 10. LG and Kyocera have yet to have a big screen hit with the readers with no phones in even the top 20.
But just because HTC has the Top 4 most prized phones, does that equate to sales and more importantly earnings? In the past months, HTC has set new sales and earnings records month, after month, after month, after month, after month, after month.
At the same time Motorola has winners with it's 4.3" Photon, Droid X, and upcoming Bionic but Motorola contionues to promote phones like the 3.2" Xprt, 3.7" Bravo, and 3.7" Defy. Motorola reported a loss in smartphone earnings last month.
Here are the Top 10 most desired US phones in the survey so far. The larger format phones are in bold.
1. Sprint HTC EVO 3D 4.3"
2. Verizon HTC Thunderbolt 4.3"
