I am building a car mount system for my nexus 7
I want to make it where evenutally the nexus 7 slides in and out
and looks to be a stock part of the car
the problem is i have tried now 5 different car usb chargers
all rated at 2 amps and NONE of them charge either my nexus 7
nor my kindle fire. I have one dc regular micro usb charger that
seems to activate the charging symbols but seems to charge the
unit so slow its ridiculous
as my nexus 7 battery lasts at least a day on a full charge and i use
it with the blue tooth of my phone for wi fi charging and to use tablet talk
it is not a huge deal but i want to be able to use full time navigation and
music and internet downloading
I am seriously considering adding a new connection to my battery and just
running a direct connection but i know someone has to have a better idea.
Thankyou!

Then issue is you need a 120volt outlet in order to charge it while in the car. A USB outlet won't work for a device require the amount of power to charge. Your welcome:)

You're welcome for what? Saying he needs a 120v AC outlet isn't the answer.

OP, what car chargers have you tried? I would try to get one that is guaranteed to charge the iPad, because if it can charge the iPad it can charge anything (they need the same amount of juice).

I just picked up a 'New Trent Arcadia Rapiduo' (19.90 USD) charger from Amazon and it works great. It has one 1 amp USB slot and one 2 amp slot. It charges my Nexus 7 just fine. It also comes with its own cable. I had one of the generic charges with attached microUSB and it worked too, but it was only 1 amp so it took forever.

Just had a thought - I remember seeing somewhere that there are two kinds of USB cords: Ones with power & data, and ones with power only (called AC charge cords). Seems that if you are using a data USB cord the device senses that and will only charge at the USB power level, no matter how much is available. You might want to check your cords and see if that makes a difference.
