What can your phone do?

Being into computers for many years I've always pushed them to do things regular users don't do (XBMC, web hosting, movie and media inventory collection O:), camera driven alarm system connected to my phone, ultimate flight simulator setup, network monitoring, etc). I'm no different with my smartphone wanting it do more than what most use them for.
With all the great smartphone users in this forum, what is the wow app/feature/how you use it, that you show off most to family or friends?

I'll start with a few...

  • Llama app - aside from all the regular automation of syncing, wifi, blu tooth toggle in the car, it silences my phone right when I walk into our local movie theatre (after a 5 minute delay, in case I'm meeting someone). Wife always reminds me to turn it off, now I can just say...done!
  • ActionComplete App - reminds me to pick stuff up when I'm in the vicinity of things (hardware store, groceries, mall, etc.)
  • HTC Zoe - making quick movies with a choice of themes from my camera and publishing them.
  • HTC Zoe -removing objects from my photos (can't wait to try this in Disneyland with all the people that get in the photo)
  • Remoting into my home camera system with tinyCam which also texts me alarms during certain times of the day when I'm not home or on vacation. I can then send/hear audio over the net to the camera to say "waddya want?!". So far I'm only scarying stray cats, but nice piece of mind.
  • Send text while driving....O:) just thru voice commands.
  • Where's my droid app...just by texting my 7 year old daughters name to her phone I can find out her location by turning on GPS and giving me the exact location on the map. Came in handy once when the bus driver dropped her off at the wrong bus stop and she was lost.

Let's hear yours!

I was going to mention the movie thing as well, but along those same lines, my phone silences itself when I have a meeting on my calendar between the hours of 8 and 4 (based on some keywords like "meeting" or "conference room").

I use Cerberus which is like Where's My Droid, but it can record video and email it to me, take a picture, sound an alarm along with various other things.

My work hours are a bit eratic (as far as when I leave work), so if it's after 3:30 and I leave the office, it automatically sends a text to my wife letting her know I'm on my way home along with my ETA (based on my normal commute time of 35 minutes).

Phone silences between the hours of 11 and 6:30am unless my wife, my parents or my boss calls (I'm always on call) or if I get an email from our network notifying me a server is down.

And Google Now has some awesome notifications, like alerting me that I need to leave for a meeting early because there's traffic between me and the meeting location. First time that happened was awesome.

I'm sure there's other things I have it set up to do I'm not thinking of right now.

Have to take a look at Cerberus, I know what you mean about the Google now, first time that popped up was a trip I was taking to the airport and it knew just when I needed to leave. Pretty neat, or spooky if you are like that, heheh.

This isn't me, but it's a neat demonstration of the types of stuff you can do with Tasker:

Check out this awesome Tasker/AutoVoice home automation setup

I'd like to get some of the home automation stuff set up but haven't had the time or money to spend on it. I'd think that just being able to control/monitor the furnace/AC and maybe the garage door or the front door lock would be plenty. Controlling lights would be cool, but probably not as necessary. Pairing these functions with NFC chips would be cool, too.

I have some location based profiles that notify me of what's on my grocery/Target/Costco Astrid lists once I get to each of those stores. I also have it turn on speaker phone if I'm in a call, the phone isn't next to anything (it checks the proximity sensor) and is sitting face up and then turns it off otherwise. I synch with iTunes automatically if I'm at home, on external power and it's at night. During the synch it uploads any new Amazon MP3's to iTunes and deletes them off my internal memory, too. It also silences when I'm at work, turns down the ringer at night if I'm plugged in to external power and turns the ringer back up otherwise. It displays my current location out of the profiles I have set up (or "out" otherwise) and my ringer volume on my lock screen so I can verify that everything is working right.

Using the Roku app I can stream pictures and music to my TV/stereo, but it's painfully slow. It's not so bad for pictures or streaming an album in order, but choosing a new song from a new album takes forever.

I love love love being able to use my phone to download torrents. Much quieter, much less heat, and much less energy than having my desktop do it over the same internet connection. Using it to control my computer while we are laying in bed watching Netflix or Hulu is very nice too compared to fumbling around with a wireless mouse and keyboard like I used to. My car (a 2013 Chevy Spark) has a very smartphone centric radio (it doesn't even have a CD player, just bluetooth, AUX, and USB) and I love being able to use my phone for my music in the car. It even lets me use Stitcher, Pandora, TuneIn, or BringGo navigation on my car's radio LCD (approx 7") but powered by and running on my phone.

I'll post screenshots soon, but I'm in the process of creating a new folder-based UI with just tasker. along those lines, custom lockscreen and 80% voice control with a bluetooth headset, and the fact that my HTC nexus one is running 4.2.2 instead of 2.3.6 is a big accomplishment for me. :)

Other than the usual Apps everyone seems to have, I like showing off these dozen or so Apps:
-WidgetLocker https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...d=com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker&token=jGLuntRy: Super customizable Lockscreen
-StatusBar+ https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...com.tombarrasso.android.wp7bar&token=nGERf28A: Cleans up the overly cluttered Android StatusBar
-Overlays https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ails?id=com.applay.overlay.pro&token=lgmiKCRr: Allows me to put shortcuts to other App's within Apps (for example I put a Facebook icon within my G+ App & vice-versa)
-Floating Notifications https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...floating.notificationsunlocker&token=IUOJhjQd: Chat Head-like functionality for virtually all Apps
-Nova Launcher Prime Gestures https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...com.teslacoilsw.launcher.prime&token=bR0KqTQc
-MissedIt & Tesla Unread https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...net.igecelabs.android.MissedIt&token=LUrXk-o0: Achieves GLOBAL Badge Notifications (those little #'s on App icons which most people think is limited to a few Apps on Android unlike iOS that also supports virtually all Apps)
-LightFlow https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...geconsulting.android.lightflow&token=8TDI5B38: LED Notifications for pretty much ALL Apps as well (much better integration than on my Z10)
-PhoneLocator Pro https://forums.androidcentral.com/e.../apps/details?id=com.rvo.plpro&token=8VeUGDSS: Allows me to take pics, record audio, lock it to my SIM & force ring along with other more standard location-type App functions
-Dumpster https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...etails?id=com.baloota.dumpster&token=ANOEYbsN: Acts like a Windows Recycling Bin capturing stuff I delete so I can restore it later if I want or in case I accidentally deleted it
-Abbyy Text Grabber https://forums.androidcentral.com/e....abbyy.mobile.textgrabber.full&token=Kjut8A9S: Lets me copy text from ANY App/Screen even those that don't natively allow it such as G+ & Facebook
-Glovebox & pop-up Apps https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...pps/details?id=com.fb.glovebox&token=IDbSMO16: "real" Multitasking
-App Lock II Widget Pro https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ils?id=net.xdevelop.protector3&token=deK0Y3JX: Allows me to "protect" Apps without them seeming like their protected

Pretty much everyone I know likes those Apps when they see them on my device.
They usually complain that they're almost all paid Apps, but given how much functionality is added I find it definitely worth the price.
