I'm new to Androids and this experience is a bit disheartening. I need to know if my new Galaxy Note 10.1 (not the 2014, so maybe 2012 - it says GT-N8013), is infected.

I bought the device last week. The software updated says that it is up to date. It is at Android version 4.1.2.

Last night, I downloaded the top rated app for wallpaper, "Backgrounds." It was rated 5 stars and downloads were into 6 digits in number, if I recall. I installed the free app from Google Play Store on the device. After spotting an old painting a friend might like, I used the share button on the app, linked up my Google gmail account, and sent him the link to the picture. Around the same time, I sent another picture to two others, and uploaded one onto Facebook without incident.

This morning I get an email from the first man that he clicked the link and it took him to a porn site!

I went onto my Apple laptop, looked in my gmail sent folder, clicked the email in question, then the link, and it took me to the correct picture on the server. It doesn't seem to make sense.

I went googling for Android viruses and found this new report coming out of India (actually several in the last 24 hours). I don't know if this is the same one that was moving about 2 weeks ago that involved downloading something from SMS or if it is new. I have not used or received any kind of text messages. I've mainly used the device for reading. I've done a few internet searches, but nothing to sites of the nature known to be prone to infection.

    Thoughts?

    Welcome to the forums!
Maybe next time you could take a screenshot of the picture and send that? The link issue may have been a freak accident.
