I think you will be impressed by a phone that doesn't have tip of the line specs.

Of the two phones you listed, I'd say the Moto X.....it just works really well in all aspects. It has a great feel to it as well. That said, I think you should consider the LG G2......it's a very under appreciated phone. If nothing else, pop into a Verizon store and try one on. I can't tell you how happy I have been with mine.

Agreed! I had a GS4 and I traded it for a Moto X and it's the best phone I've ever owned. I think I'm done with Samsung phones forever...

Only had Moto X since last night, but I am loving it! Still a lot of learning, but think it is going to be awesome.

If you're interested in specs then the S4 is the clear winner - Samsung Galaxy S4 vs Motorola Moto X - Mobile Phones Specs Comparison

Buuut.... I think the Moto X is the better choice. Better design, better optimised, better build quality, less bloat/useless features, faster updates, near stock Android, useful features such as active notifications, probably will be supported longer too..

    Not necessarily.

The display is only 13ppi better than the Moto X...that is something no one will notice. Not even a tech nerd.

As for CPU/GPU speed, the Moto X has outperformed the S4 in several benchmarks. So I don't think that is clear either:
