Tonight I said good-bye to my Nexus 5 and Straight Talk $45 a month plan.

I pulled the trigger on the Moto G for $150 and Republic Wireless's $10 a month plan for unlimited talk/text.

Over the year I've realized I've been using my data less and less. This month I've only used 75 MB of data. And I don't do much with my phone anymore other than the occasional email/web browser/Google Now. No need to get the latest and greatest every year, the hardware these days on mid-level Android phones are good enough for me.

If you're a cheapass like me, you won't find a better deal, especially if you have kids and are paying for their plans too.

It's good to see that Republic is still doing well--to be honest, when they first came out, I had my doubts about how long they'd last. Let us know what you think of the voice service. My main concern would be the transition from wi-fi calling to the Sprint network when you move out of wi-fi range, but I've read some reviews that say the transition is pretty seamless.
