I'm looking for something fairly specific. I am looking for the closest thing Android has to iTunes. And the exact feature I'm looking for is the ability to download MP3s that will play on any music app after I've downloaded them. For example, I can copy and paste any song I download on my PC from iTunes onto my Android phone and it will play in any music player with no issues.

On the flip side, if I download a song I buy from Google Play Music it will only play in the Google music app. The song is unplayable in other music apps. WTF is that about?

Am I doing something wrong here? Should songs I download from Google's music service play fine in other music apps? Is there another music service available on Android that will let me purchase and download MP3s that will play on any device/app?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

And I guess I should specify that I'm really just looking for a way to download songs legally on my phone that will play on any music app.

I want to eliminate the need to transfer songs from my PC to my phone. I want to be able to just download the songs onto my phone and play them in whatever music app I'm currently most fond of, whether it's Poweramp, Jet Audio, etc.

I assumed that I'd be able to do this through Google's music service, but when I tried playing a song a purchased and downloaded through Google on Jet Audio's music player I couldn't do it.

I believe it can only be done by sideloading from your PC, which is a total utter load of useless [language removed].

Spotify. Pro version. I don't normally like any type of app that has a monthly fee, but Spotify is worth it. Check it out.

That's rather disappointing! It's almost as if the music industry and Google don't want my money! All I want to do is buy music digitally and listen to it through a player of my choosing.

No wonder no one pays for music anymore lol. Absolutely ridiculous.

I've done the subscription thing before. Not a huge fan of it. And again, if I use Spotify and download songs through their service, I cannot play those songs through any other music app except Spotify.

I was just hoping that there was something available on Android comparable to iTunes where I can buy a song, download it and do whatever I want with it. Guess I'm out of luck.

Try Encore Music app combined with Spotify. Never tried Encore, but you are supposed to be able to pull music from pretty much any music app and play any of it on that app. Just a suggestion.

I think Amazon would be the answer, except that their music service isn't available in Canada. At least it wasn't last time I checked.

Sorry about the delay. Google has a Music manager program for Windows. You can download and upload your songs to Google, and then load them onto your phone/SD card. Once there, any player should be able to play them.

I believe you can download songs you've purchased right from the Google Play Music website. It downloads a high-bitrate mp3 that you can use anywhere.

I do it all the time.
