Why are the updates so huge? The June security update for my Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was over 300 MB

Does Sprint give you a changelog? My guess is that there were a bunch of bugfixes along with the security update. On my Nexus devices, the June security update was only about 10 MB.

OEMs and carriers have been dumping a bunch of stuff in there with the security updates.... so what is actually a small code change blossoms into something larger. Also keep in mind that OEMs (and the carrier versions) do diverge from the core Android source, so those security patches might require additional code changes to take those code differences into account.

Also, when you see an update that big, look around afterwards for any additional "features" (aka bloat) that the carrier may have decided to add.
