Anyone here use Good Mobile Messaging (aka Good for Enterprise) and have any issues after flashing?

My IT department has been trying to diagnose my issue for two weeks.

App installs > establishes a secure connection > starts to retrieve settings...

    Then throws error code 0x100003.

Forever more it looks connected on in the Good management software but the app on the phone will never startup. Just continues to say "Good for Enterprise is starting, please wait..." endlessly.

Reflashed all the way back to DI01, then DJ05, then DL09, then EA28 and now EB01. No difference between them.

Clearly something that's not on the phone? Could it be an issue with a non-stock kernel? 2.6.32.9

    Thanks much.

    Running Superclean 2.8 ROM
    Kernel is nonvoodoo 2.6.32.9
    Baseband S:i500.04 V.EA28
    Build SCH-I500:EB01
    Hardware version I500.04
    Firmware version 2.2.1

When rebooted - Good Mobile Messaging starts and runs in persistent mode (at least the icon in the notification bar does). Try to open the app and I get "Good for Enterprise is starting, please wait." I will plug her in and wait all night just to see if something happens. Task Mgr shows CPU less than 1% but not zero...

If you are on EB01, unless you are running a voodoo ROM and voodoo kernel, you are on a stock kernel.

There's your problem. You have a mismatched baseband and build. You are running an EA28 baseband and an EB01 build. You need to flash this modem in ODIN:

I will do that if it still needs to be run after he updates his modem. He's got an EA28 baseband and an EB01 build.

Yeah, kind of strange everything was working with the different baseband and build. We'll see if this corrects things and if not I will try to load that app and see what happens.

Ok. Got the right modem now. I just have to get a new feakin' PIN from my IT guy in order to test the app. Initial attempt without removal/reinstall resulted in the same "Good for Enterprise is starting, please wait."

I'll get the PIN, reinstall and report back. All other internet apps seem to work just fine.

Did you go into menu=>settings=>about phone to make sure the flash took and you are on both EB01 baseband and build?

    Confirmed :

    Baseband S:i500.04 V.EB01
    Build SCH-I500.EB01

IT will send me a new PIN in less than an hour. Will post result once I give it another shot.

    Super thanks!

    Reinstalled app from Market.

    App setup initiated...
    Authenticated...
    Secured Channel...
    While Retrieving Settings...

Error - An unknown error occurred. (Error: 0x0)

I can click OK to get rid of the error dialogue and it puts me back to where I enter my email and my PIN and click NEXT to do the setup again...

Funny thing is this... While typing this post - I GOT NOTIFICATIONS from Good for Enterprise in the status bar telling me of new emails and calendar reminders... I have 5 GOOD alerts when I pull the task bar down.

Can't seem to get app to actually proceed to the normal app screen despite what appears to be a half-A&&'d setup that clearly makes a connection to the server (or it wouldn't have notified me of anything).

Here's question... The Good website lists a grid for compatible devices and OS's. Obviously they list the Fascinate with OS 2.1. I am running 2.2 but the App Market sent me the ONLY version of the app what works on Android regardless of what OS is on the phone. And, Good is supported on some phones that have an OEM 2.2 version installed.... could it be so freakin smart that it knows what my device is and is looking or 2.1 versus 2.2?

Want me to click OK to clear the dialogue and proceed?

I don't know enough about the technical side of things, but I do know there are some apps that are OS specific, and remember we are running a leaked version of 2.2 for our phones. There have been numerous bugs and problems with this leaked version, which is probably the reason it is taking so long for samsung and verizon to put out the official release. They are probably still coming across bugs and problems they can't fix. This may be related to one of those bugs.

Just got word from my IT guy that he asked the GOOD people about the 2.2 on my Fascinate. They said it wouldn't an issue....

Coincidentally... a new version of Good for Enterprise will hit the Market tomorrow... How much you wanna bet there was a broken version out there until tomorrow....?

Uninstalled the app version 1.6 and upgraded to 1.7.

    Same results as before.

Error pops up during Retrieving settings and it lands me back on the setup page with the email address and pin inputs.

The app tray icon is there to show the app is running in persistent mode.

I get reminders for calendar events in the notification bar.

I get email subjects in the notification bar for a few seconds upon receipt.

I added the GOOD widgets to the home screen and they show up as they normally would. I can see my calendar date/title and I can see the email sender/subject.

Clicking on the calendar widget takes me back to the setup screen again. Clicking on the email widget does the same thing.

Clicking on a reminder in the notification bar takes me to the appointment detail.

Clicking on the "X new messages" notice from the notification bar takes me to the setup screen again.

As normal, there is the option to click Next or Quit on the setup screen (requires email address and PIN).

Quitting and then restarting GOOD results in the "Good for Enterprise is starting, please wait..." message (that never terminates).

Clicking Next takes me back to carrier selection...starts right back at retrieving settings (past securing channel, etc...) and ends with Error: 0x0.

Note - unless I quit and reinstall and try to use the PIN again - it doesn't telling me that the PIN has already been used. I can actually loop repeatedly through NEXT and closing error out. Next and Closing error out.

    This blows.

Oh... one more piece to the puzzle...

On a whim, we decided to try to setup my account on a different device. Use my wife's I-phone 4. Downloaded app from I-tunes. Used my email and brand new PIN issued to me.

Got an error message saying that the PIN had already been used... I am absolutely positive that it had not.

For some reason, my IT guy said that he actually expected that.

Will advise when we hear back from Good (Bad).

spoke with my IT department. apparently, Good "certifies" and "registers" devices with specific OS. since 2.2 is not official, they have not "certified" for the Fascinate. this seems to be at least part of the issue. according to IT, they are working with Good to resolve. i am 1 of 20 with the issue (we employ ~20K) - lucky us.

for me, this seems to coincide with a new server update and release of GfE 1.7. i think the firm turned on root detection and other "security" features with this update.

hope this information is of some use. i'm supposed to check back in tomorrow to see if they have resolved. may be that they send me back to 2.1 - which is completely bogus IMNSHO.

As much as I just really want an answer to this problem... I have my doubts that that is the cause here. While I don't doubt that they certify devices as compatible by OS (their own site has a grid that shows which) - I have worked with my IT folks to try to resolve this app issue on DI01, DJ05, DL09, EA28 and EB01. It didn't seem to make a difference.

Could it be that there is a "memory" of a device being rooted and or non-standard ROM such that the MEID of the device flags it forever?

That also doesn't explain why my wife couldn't setup my account on her I-Phone 4. What if I just happened to switch from this Fascinate to an I-Phone... surely that's allowed... and yet it didn't work the other day.

For me this also seemed to coincide with server activity. We moved or "demo" of GOOD to a production server internally.

Still waiting for an explanation or a fix.

At any time did you wipe your data filesystem? Also after you uninstalled the app did you check to see if there was anything hanging around from the previous install(usually in /data or /dbdata) These probably aren't fixes but just something to consider if there is potentially old config hanging around even after you uninstall the app.

Well choke my chicken and call me Jessica...

    Guess what everybody...

I downgraded back from Froyo (Superclean 2.9) to Eclair (Supaclean 0.4) and it worked.

Good must really look for the associated OS on each device. Guess I will reconsider upgrading even when Froyo officially hits for the Fascinate.

I could have sworn that we tried to re-initialize on DI01, DJ05, DL09 and EA28...

I wonder if something else changed... at this point... I don't care.

    Backing up now.
