This is driving me insane. All of the supported apps for Chromecast are working with my PC/Phone: Netflix, Youtube, etc. However, when I try casting a tab, audio does not work, just video. When I drag local videos or songs into the Chrome browser, the audio works for those. However, normal websites do not play audio. I actually got the Google Music website to play audio by enabling HTML5 audio in the labs section. However, this is the only website I have gotten sound to successfully cast on. Is there someway to enable HTML 5 audio everywhere in Chrome? I've tried different computers, TVs, power sources, and a factory reset with no luck. What do you guys think is wrong? Any help would be appreciated!

Press the cast icon on the chrome browser & enable audio. You can also mirror the desktop as well from here. It is beta but it works well at least for me.

Chromecast works perfect when casting from Youtube and Netflix tablet apps, as well as casting these from Chrome to Chromecast, however recently I found that I no longer have any audio when casting a tab, such as "CBS" news to Chromecast (fyi - video is fine).
I've reset Chromecast and tried a different HDMI without any luck.
Does anyone have a suggestion? This was working before. Thanks!

had that same problem and decided to tackle it today .. thanks to Google+ Chromecast community, I was able to troubleshoot this issue and find a solution:

initially, I had the device connected to the TV usb drive as a power source. when I cast a tab, I get the video, but no audio. While casting, I would unplug the device from the HDMI port for 1-2 seconds, then plug it back in (keep the USB cable plugged in). the audio & video starts to work. If I turn off the tv then turn it back on, the issue re-appears, as the the device loses power. I decided to plug it directly to the wall, using the provided power adapter, and this way, it remains on all the time. I tested it by powering the tv, off then on, and it's it audio works just fine.

I'm not really sure why this happens, but I'm just glad I found a solution.

I would bet that your TV has CEC enabled. The Chromecast loves CEC controls but does some serious damage when trying to set things up. Disable CEC (or whatever your TV calls it - do a quick Google search with your TV's brand and CEC next to it which will give you the name of the setting you need to disable) and reboot your TV. Everything should work fine.

Totally forgot about this thread, sorry guys. Basically, I just reinstalled chrome on my computer and everything worked fine.

Hi. I'm having the same problem. The tv in my living room is a Sony Bravia KDL-37W5810 from about 4 years ago. Video and audio cast from the YouTube app without issue and audio casts from Google Play Music. Video casts well from Chrome tabs but other than managing a few discernible stutters a couple of days back, there is no audio. I've tried the unplugging/replugging Chromecast trick to no avail. I've tried the power plug rather than the tv's USB port. Still no luck. The video streams absolutely fine (Up to medium resolution) and the WiFi signal bar on Chromecast appears to be 'good' (rather than excellent or poor). I've also tried the HDMI extender and the other three HDMI sockets as well as disabling HDMI control.
In desperation last night I removed Chromecast and plugged it into my bedroom TV (a newer Samsung) using the USB socket for power. To my shock - it worked!!!! Both video and audio cast to the bedroom tv without any issues at all.
Back down to the living room and still no luck.
Any thoughts? I really thought the advice in previous messages above would solve it but alas, no.

Well, after moving my PC and router close to the Sony tv last week to test if a weaker wireless signal was to blame (my, that was a lot of work) I expected the audio to appear but - no! So, it must have been an incompatibility somewhere along the line. However, it's suddenly started working this morning (from the usual distance) so I suspect that a firmware/software update has sorted the issue.

I have this problem on one laptop but not on a second laptop. I have uninstalled Chromecast in the laptop that fails several times I don't understand what is wrong, any helpful ideas?
