had that same problem and decided to tackle it today .. thanks to
Google+ Chromecast community, I was able to troubleshoot this issue and find a solution:
initially, I had the device connected to the TV usb drive as a power source. when I cast a tab, I get the video, but no audio. While casting, I would unplug the device from the HDMI port for 1-2 seconds, then plug it back in (keep the USB cable plugged in). the audio & video starts to work. If I turn off the tv then turn it back on, the issue re-appears, as the the device loses power. I decided to plug it directly to the wall, using the provided power adapter, and this way, it remains on all the time. I tested it by powering the tv, off then on, and it's it audio works just fine.
I'm not really sure why this happens, but I'm just glad I found a solution.
