I just noticed the apps Avia and Real Player Cloud are supported and can cast local media from my device to the Chromecast. Awesome!

Sorry if this has been discussed before, I thought there might be a few folks that didn't know.

Does a via work well?

It's worked very well for me, mainly used for streaming from my NAS/file server using my phone as a remote. If you just wanna stream from your phone, maybe real player, which is free, will do you. But avia is worth the money IMO.

Avia is very limited. It does not do transcoding and has trouble with even some supported codecs. I bought it but don't use it because of how few files it can actually cast. Unless you know all the files you want to play are supported, I wouldn't waste my money. Plex and Real Player Cloud both do transcoding and are far more useful than Avia for most people. But a small percentage of people with specific needs can benefit from Avia.
