SO would it be better if i got the t-mobile version instead of the att version Just to get better talk time and standby time, and wifi is all i need, i do not have a need for 3g, or is there a way to turn off 3g and just use 2g. just like to hear what u guys think

you can just turn off 3G, so i highly recommend you getting the correct phone for the network you are on, which is the rogers/ATT version. just in case you want to use 3G in the future, you have it, rather than artificially limiting yourself when you can achieve the same thing by just going into settings and turning off 3g whenever you want.
