Nexus one never updated from 2.1, then failed.

Hi

I just recently purchased a AT&T nexus one off of eBay and the original owner did not frequently use the phone, so he never updated from 2.1. So its just EPE54B. I have had the phone for a little over 2 weeks and I have not received a notification to update. Since gingerbread was recently being rolled out, today I tried "checkin", I got a notification for a system update, hit install now, and after the phone was apparently updating, it restarted still running 2.1. The phone is not rooted, and all stock. Could someone please let me know what my problem is? Is froyo necessary in order to get Gingerbread?

Yes! there are alot of things necessary in froyo needed in gingerbread. Find 2.2 on the internet and update it then update to gingerbread

What version of 2.2 do i need to be at in order to update to 2.3? Does the carrier matter for build numbers anymore?

OK problem resolved. I was able to go straight to 2.3 from 2.1

A little late, but this is what I did to get the OTA

I did a manual update with this: http://android.clients.google.com/p...b119f8.signed-passion-ota-102588.656099b1.zip

and i got gingerbread. Many websites have instructions for manual updates for the nexus one

Cool, glad you got it going. The Nexus One is one support (and hacked!) phone, so plenty of info for it. As you've found....
