Sorry if this has been asked before but I am looking for some help on upgrading my Nexus 1 to Gingerbread.

I am currently running 2.2.1 build FRG83D. I tried to do a manual install of gingerbread but keep running into the following errors...

E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted

I'm not sure what is going on as I am following the procedure as written.

I also tried to update to 2.2.2 using the file 2854b06b22b9.signed-passion-FRG83G-from-FRG83D.2854b06b.zip but still get the same errors. Maybe this was not needed.

Could there be something wrong with my SD card? Do I have to be rooted in order to do the manual install. Any help would be very appreciated. Many thanks.

If you're on 2.2.1 you probably have a carrier modified ROM, and not a completely stock one (Vodafone, Videotron, Rogers, etc).

You will have to wait until your carrier releases their updates, or you can use the passimg method to get to a completely stock ROM and then update...
