How to sort photos?

Hi - I'm new to Android (just purchased Nexus 10) and, being a long term Windows user I'm having trouble getting my head round a different OS. I have just a few photos on my tablet at present (imported and taken with device camera) but, looking to the future, I can imagine having hundreds. So - my question....will I have to scroll through the lot to find what I'm looking for or is there a system similar to Windows file/folders? What I'd like to be able to do is create different 'sub-folders' within my main picture 'folder' (forgive Windows terminology!) and group my pics as I do on my pc. (i.e. Holidays, Pets, People, etc. etc.)

If the answer is blindingly obvious...please forgive an elderly non-tech for a stupid question!!!! Thanks..

Quick answer - yes, you can do that.

I use ES File Explorer as it works close enough to windows that I can figure it out. It's a play store app.
