So can anyone confirm with 100% certainty that I need to change my plan from the LTE plan I use with my GS3 now to a regular 4G/smartphone data plan? If so I may consider doing this, but I'd hate to change my plan if it really isn't necessary. The consensus here seems to be 50/50

I'd say that speeds are comparable to what you should see on a HSPA+ network. Personally, I haven't seen great speeds. Currently, I am dealing with a conflict with AT&T. My account continues to show me using an iPhone 5. My data plan shows a smartphone 4g LTE. Best I'm averaging is less than 2mbs.

Apparently, the network is having trouble resolving my fake imei used to get the plan, and my actual N4 imei.

I have been using unlocked, unbranded devices on at&t since 2002 and I have never experienced DATA issues, though I do read plenty of reports here and elsewhere regarding DATA issues with unlocked, unbranded devices (like the Nexus 4).

My best advice would be to ensure that the SIM chip is new and the correct DATA plan is added to your account.

As to an old device showing in your online account, the online account is not real time and will show whatever device at&t recognized and then set a cookie in your browser.

Since activating it last week, ice noticed on my account that the line associated with my N4 still shows an iPhone which j was previously using. My plan was changes from iPhone LTE to Smartphone 4G LTE but the picture on my ATT still hasnt changed. Typically, changing the device is reflected. Not the N4.

Is this worthy of call?

This is typical. I had the same thing happening to me with my Nexus one, I wouldn't worry about it unless the data plan is wrong.

So I'm having trouble receiving MMS on this device. My APN settings are the same as what's listed earlier in this thread. Traditional mobile.att.net should I have WAP.Cingular instead? My data speeds were slower there. Any suggestions?

I picked up a new AT&T micro sim today which did nothing, then I called AT&T Tech support and gave them my N4's imei and told them it was a 4G LG smartphone, she asked for a model # and I told her I didn't know she said that was ok, still no better than before - So I called back with an HTC vivd's imei no better :(
Before I give up hope and return my N4 next week, I have emailed LG Tech support to see if they can help

This is exactly what I am talking about I currently have the iPhone 5 I have the 10 gb share plan I will go get a micro sim and give them the imei from the nexus once it arrives yet based On other folks here they have the right plans and the still cant send messages i get decent data speeds right now where I live in Dallas I get avg 30mps on my iPhone 5 lte I know so i would expect at least 10-14 Mbps down with h+ but these stories of suck speeds and service working can't all be just wrong plans why do we have to enter all of these settings when I used the gnex I popped the sim in and the phone pulled the settings and I did not have to change a thing oh well to good to be true it just doesn't make sense that these phones would have to go through all of this like playing roulette hoping you get lucky ImageUploadedByTapatalk1355595665.157152.jpg

During an outing, ran speed tests on both my N4 and wife's 4S. Both results came back poor. At least I have some verification that the N4 is not performing any worse than it could.

I have no idea what I did right but I am actually outperforming my expectations and my colleague's SGS3 (while on HSPA+ not LTE).

MMS works fine too, go figure.

One last thought, in the APN Type do you have spaces after each comma? If so, there should be NO spaces, kind of like a run-on sentence (default, supl, mms, hipri) .

I have no commas inserted. Haven't received another MMS message to test it. But so far in the wild using the nexus 4 as my driver it's been good. Hspa is noticeably slower than the lte on my GS3 but not bad. Changing the APN from phone to pta has made a huge difference. The APN settings found on xda for users coming from an S3 have been spot on. Just need a case for this bad boy now as it's really slippery. Thanks for the tips!

Guess I'll head over to XDA and read their threads, I am hoping to find a "solid" fix before my RMA runs out to return my N4

If I wasn't on my phone I'd post my APN settings but I found the link in this thread. It gave specific APN settings for GS3 users. So far so good. If my RMA runs out I know this phone will be so easy to sell even if it's only at cost.

Just chatted with ATT and they are still saying they are having issues with the Nexus 4 and the proper data plan in regards to classification and IMEI recognition. They said that my info has been forwarded to a "specialist" and they will be able to add my Nexus 4 (no dummy IMEIs) to the proper data plan but it will take 2 weeks to do the process - WTF. I mean my speeds are decent anyway and I'm mostly on wifi but 2 weeks sound ridiculous to me. Any way, we'll see in two weeks.

I gave the AT&T Tech line another chance last night and this time the Tech wanted to help instead of giving me the canned reply. When I gave her my N4 IMEI, she seemed to know that it was going to be a challenge and called in someone else to assist her. With help she had to manually force the plan on to the line where the system did not recognize the IMEI (my interpretation of the conversation) - She also mentioned that AT&T had been getting a lot of call with folks trying to get their N4's onto their lines and suggested that AT&T was working on it (we've all heard that before)

After getting a new micro sim and the correct data plan I still have a flaky data connection, hoping AT&T figures it out soon

Do you mind posting your APN settings. After I changed mine, all is well here.
