I'm waiting for the replacement to arrive, shipped Friday. My phone randomly overheats every few days (to 54-59 deg C) when it's in my pocket or on desk, unused in sleep mode. Other days it behaves fine. Also phone call reception is always awful. I'm not convinced the replacement will be any better so want to try it for a week before deciding. I'm assuming the 21 days is from when you requested the replacement as Google told me it may take "weeks" due to low stock (UK) whereas in fact it's been just a week since I requested it, via the link they emailed me. They said that the 21 days would only be waived if it took longer than that to receive the replacement.
Do you think trying it for a week is risky? The phone I'm returning only started to overheat after 3-4 days.

Btw, how do I reset to factory settings before returning the phone? Obviously have personal data, apps, photos, music that I need to wipe. Thanks

I got my replacement last Tuesday. So far it has none of the problems of my original (ordered on launch day, rev 10), which were loud earpiece no matter how much I turned it down it was still ear splitting, the screen sometimes would remain black when I woke it up, and it started to randomly reboot about a week before I sent it back. New one (rev 11) has been much better, and it also seems like it has better battery life (just comparing my daily usage).

Many thanks for your help. I won't do it until I've tried the new phone. Will ask google in writing for date when they have to have received the faulty phone back.

Re: The "I've requested a replacement Nexus 4" thread...

nexus 4 wouldnt turn on for about seven hours the other day. obviously i phoned google for a replacement, which has been sent out (yesterday i think), however since phoning them my phone started to work. about an hour after phoning google for replacement, i dropped my phone. it now has a scuff mark on the top and a hairline crack about 2in long down the back.

do you reckon i should send it back or will they shaft me for the full cost of the replacement/repair?

would it be worth keeping old model and being charged for new model, then selling old model on ebay, prices are still crazy there.

Why did you order a replacement?

Early hours Monday 14th January UK time my Nexus 4's battery died, wouldn't turn on and LED flashed red when on charge. Google called it a "critical battery issue"?

Did you received the replacement?

Yes

How long did it take?

Just over 7 days. Called about about 8:00am UK time on Monday 14th January, received RMA 2:06am Tuesday 15th, received shipping notice 18th January and received replacement 5:50pm Monday 21st January.

Did the replacement N4 have other issues?

Not that I am aware of... Only had it two days...

How would you rate the process?

The process wasn't too bad, 7 days turn-around was pretty good although the longest 7 days I can remember. I totally understand why Google put an Auth on my card but that doesn't mean this whole process was convenient, being out of pocket ?280GBP for two plus weeks isn't convenient but at least I have a new N4...

I got my replacement phone but it's got a slight earpiece buzz. I'm wondering which phone to keep as reckon most of them have issues and can't keep waiting for replacements.
So - overheating, battery draining phone every few days, or buzzy phone? Google Support just send bland auto gen replies to specific questions, so not even sure how long I have to get the return back to them. I asked them, no specific reply to my question.
I like the phone but they are so annoying that I'm almost tempted to return both and get another phone entirely.

Anybody else with an authorisation on their card get the authorisation released after a few days?
I wasn't expecting it released until they had received my faulty Nexus 4...

Why did you order a replacement? Thursday Jan 24th 2013

Did you received the replacement? Monday Jan 28th 2013

How long did it take? 2 Days (not including the Weekend)

Did the replacement N4 have other issues? Not that I could find...Seems brand new

How would you rate the process? I was pretty surprised how well the replacement process went. It was pretty painless. The Customer Rep was very helpful and I didn't have any problems with my RMA request. My original device had dead/stuck pixels in the virtual buttons pane. Its is kind of disappointing that my first handset lasted only 24 days tho, Out of my last 4 phones I probably had to request a replacement, once for my HTC G2. (the other phones were a couple of blackberrys, and a Galaxy S2) I hope this replacement lasts until I get shammed into buying the next latest and greatest Nexus with Key Lime Pie. :p

I have the same issue with Nexus 4 and ATT. Never was a problem with Galaxy Nexus.
Is this issue resolved with a new Nexus 4 or is this a problem with this model?
If a problem with this model, I'm going back to Galaxy Nexus, which is a much better phone only b/c of very poor connectivity issues with Nexus 4.

After reading this thread, I'm trying to decide whether to request a replacement. My N4 has a noticeable screen defect at the top, with several dim areas. These are covered by the notification bar, and so are not visible unless you are viewing something fullscreen. You can sort of see it in at the left of the attached pics taken with my old phone (it's worse in real life) :) What does your screen look like? Would you keep this phone or return it and hope for better?

I'm bummed, just got mine today, and like others I had the light/bright spot in the screen, only it was in the mid-upper left area of the screen, and pretty noticeable. Only just started the return process, hopefully it's quick/painless and the new one doesn't have that problem. I didn't even have a chance to put my SIM in the device to see if the earpiece was ok or not. *sigh*.

I have a question for you guys

The hold that they put on the credit is just to make sure that you send back your original device, right? Do they inspect the device? Mine has a problem with the power button. If the power button works well when they'll inspect it, will i have to pay the 350 $ ?

Thank you!

To everyone who's gotten a replacement - do you just pop in your old sim into the replacement device and everything (service wise) is set up?

I am in the same boat, they put a hold on my card and I don't have credit cards so it is coming from my check card so now I have money that is freezed up until they get me my phone, and I can return my defective one. They have all your information, so there is not a need for a full charge I can understand some kind of charge, but not a full one.

Why did you order a replacement?

My current N4 (had for 3 months) generally works great, but has an annoying tendency to lock up when I charge it overnight. Notification LED still blinks, but the screen won't turn on and if I have an alarm clock set, it won't go off. I have to hold the power button to force the phone off, then turn the phone back on. This happens with a 100% factory reset phone and no apps installed, and heard of other people RMAing their phones to fix this problem, so I went for it.

Did you received the replacement?

Yes.

How long did it take?

Shipping took a week.

Did the replacement N4 have other issues?

Here's one of the better pictures of the screen. It gets much worse than this, the phone's unusable.

How would you rate the process?

Google tells me I have to complete the original RMA first - I have to send my first phone in and wait for them to receive it. When that RMA concludes, then I have to open up another RMA for the botched replacement. So yeah, I pretty much have to go without a phone for 2+ weeks.

I spent a fair bit of time on the phone with them yesterday, arguing that I'd much rather hang onto my first phone so I actually have a phone to use, and RMA the replacement instead. There's a "specialist" looking into this but I haven't heard anything back from them yet.
