Nexus4 stuck in Boot Screen

Hi all,

I have a Nexus4 which is about 5 months old. A couple of days ago, the phone ran out of battery and was left off without charging. When I attempted to power the phone back on, I realized it gets stuck in the booting screen indefinitely. I tried wiping the cache to no avail. I still haven't tried a full factory reset because I'm looking for a way to backup my data. I don't wanna lose all my contacts

Anyways, so what I'm trying to ask are a couple of questions:
1. Anyone know how to backup phone data while the phone is off? I'm on a Mac running OSX10.6 and it doesn't recognize the device if it's off or booting. I could try Windows, but haven't yet since I'm not sure it would work either. Is there any other way known?
2. Anyone encountered the issue of the phone getting stuck on the booting screen and, if so, how did you solve it?

Your contacts could be backed up to your gmail, least mine are!
Sorry I am not much of a help, personally i would hard reset it.
