This is my first thread here, sorry if it's in the wrong place.

How safe is it to adb sideload Android 4.3 to my Nexus 4 currently running 4.2.2, I'm impatient and I haven't received the ota yet.

Is there a risk that I could brick my phone or is it safe?

    Thanks.

It's honestly the easiest thing. The chances of something going wrong are really slim. I think you should be fine.

I'm probably going to resort to this soon although I don't want to because my nexus is pretty much my baby.

Completely safe. The only difference is that instead of your phone downloading the update itself and then rebooting into recovery to install it, YOU download the update(to your computer), reboot to recovery manually, select the install from sideload option, then (on the computer) issue the adb sideload *update.zip*
Replacing *update.zip* with the actual update package.
Of course this requires you have your computer set up correctly. Completely safe, though. The phone still does signature verification on the update file.

Wugz tool kit I believe can flash it on there as its now updated 4.3 as their recovery. I also did it when 4.22 was their recovery.

Our own Jerry H. gives the run down on manually updating to Android 4.3

He also notes, the N7 and the scripting used takes extra precautions due to the file system structure.

Hold down the power button then press the volume up button to reach the next menu. Got stuck on this part, too.

I'm not sure if you can do this on a Mac, but launch the command prompt from the platform-tools folder wherever you installed the Android SDK, then it should be in the right place to find adb.exe.

People struggling should use the intructions here (replacing the appropriate files used of course) the process is exactly how you'd sideload an update with adb.

Attempted updating my Nexus 4 for android 4.3. It did not update yesterday despite wiping the cache partition. The device did not power on and was showing the booting X.

Today morning after clearing the cache partition it loaded 4.3 and powered on. However when the device was off and powered it on, it again did not boot and again shows booting X.

To fix this, should I attempt adb sideload android 4.2.2? Or should I attempt adb sideload android 4.3? When I attempt adb sideload, is there a risk that all the data will get wiped out? Can anything else be done to power the device on without wiping the data?

    Request immediate suggestions.

    Thanks
