Is there an app out there that provides a similar function to tap-tapping the screen to turn on/off for rooted and/or non-rooted devices?

After helping a friend deal with the flimsy power button issue on her 4s; I'd like to extend the life of the power button on my devices and currently, I'm using awesome on/off for my n4 (with 'on' feature off) and would like an app to power on the phone like the LG G2 double tap feature. And the same goes for my TouchPad as it doesn't have a proximity sensor.

That feature might be built into the system and may not be duplicated with an app.

Both are wrong. via something called slide2wake(an app) that plugs into a custom kernel allows similar functionally.

Ya, it seems PGM is the closest thing out there but I'm quite satisfied with a non-rooted n4 and I don't think it's compatible with a TouchPad

I admit, that's a pretty neat feature.

I'll add that to front facing speakers as designs that I'd love all smartphones to incorporate.
