Given the past history of x.y.1 releases coming on the heels of the original x.y release, this does not surprise me in the least. If I remember correctly, 4.2.1 was out by the end of the year last year.

It was out with the Nexus 4. I'm not sure when they released 4.2.1 into the general population. Very shortly after getting my N4 in February, 4.2.2 was released, which is good because it fixed a number of issues pertaining mostly to stability and battery life.

Guess we'll find out soon, since 4.4.1 will be hitting the N5 in a few days.

From what I have read... this update is mostly for improving the camera. I don't take many pictures so I'm not concerned too much with this update.
