I was messing around with the camera a bit today. IMO the hardware is pretty decent. The settings interface is a bit too fiddly - I'd prefer a simple icon bar on the side or something. I also find the focusing needs improvement, when it works, the pictures are clean and crisp but I can't always get the focus on the first try. I compared the same macro shot using Camera360 and find the stock app to be sharper but tends toward blue, while 360 has tends toward yellow - all personal preference.

Is their a macro setting on the stock camera? I haven't found it.

Gotta love a leatherman. Never leave home w/o it .

For those of you who have been using this N5 for a few days, do you have any thoughts on that glass/plastic covering the lens? I'm curious about how its holding up to scratches. With the N4 I had a case (Rearth Ringke) that allowed the lens to be protected by being recessed from the surface of the case. With the N5 the lens cover protrudes from the surface of the back, looks like it will be a magnet for scratches.

The N4 was not really recessed...it's cover was the back glass, which itself could be scratched (mine is). The Nexus 5's is not recessed either, but I have a case on mine, which does recess it.

No specific macro setting. It is basically always on...tap to focus a close up object and it will go macro on it's own.

Just for chuckles I tried recording on my Nexus 5 a track from a band I went to see Saturday. Small club, I was standing towards the back and the lighting was very poor (from a recording standpoint). The sound was much better than I would have gotten with my Nexus 4, but obviously the video leaves a bit to be desired. Notice how the Nexus keeps trying to refocus. ...Surf on....

Yes I know the N4 lens was not recessed...I was saying that with a case...like the Rearth Ringke...the lens (which of course is flush with the glass back of phone) was recessed. But with respect to the N5...what are your impressions on the durability of that glass/plastic that is covering the lens? Can you tell if it's glass or plastic? Can you tell if it's going to hold up during typical use...ie in and out of pocket or purse? I've come across one post where the glass has already cracked for someone IMG_20131109_152945.jpg

That looks like it hit a corner or something. There is no other way the glass could be contacted.

Mine is actually recessed even less than that with the case on.

Even though I'm mostly against using digital zoom, it may have helped in this case. There's so much foreground stuff to mess up the focus (and also distract the viewer).
