When on LTE only(confirmed 3G does not do it) when I make a call I go from full signal to nothing. Everything still works fine no dropped calls. Is this just normal behavior for LTE. This is my second Nexus 5 and both did it so I assume the phone is fine.

I've noticed this and I think its because LTE is data only and when you make a call you are using HSPA. I think the phone has one display for LTE connectivity and another for HSPA and when you flip between the two it resets the display. I have yet to see if I can make a call and use data. I know this was a technical issue in the past that AT&T used to use in their commercials.

I was under impression HSPA was slower data level. Thought levels were Edge, 3G, HSPA, HSPA+ and then LTE. Could be wrong though.

Well I'm on Sprint so I don't think its hspa but probably same concept.
Yes. You can't use the two at the same time, so data is disabled when you make a call. Volte (Voice over LTE) is something I hope becomes the standard sooner rather than later.
