my goal is to do everything through google voice. I have until May before hangout might cause issues, etc.

I'm on the $30 data plan. LOVE the LTE speeds I'm getting in my area.

Phone quality STINKS. I've done all the tweeks recommended...still STINKS.

someone recommended ZOIPER but I have no idea how to set it up.

I know just enough techie stuff to get myself in trouble.

Prefer to be unrooted but if rooting makes a huge difference, I'll consider.

    Thanks. Trish

The problem is that all the VoIP apps that unofficially support Google Voice suck, with varying degrees. You basically have the following options:

    1. Download the Google Voice app and set it to make all calls with Google Voice (and obviously to have your GV calls forwarded to your T-mobile number). This WILL use your minutes, however, so if 100 minutes aren't enough for you, get another plan.
    2. Suffer through the suckiness of Groove IP.
    3. Wait until Google releases an update to Hangouts that supports voice calling.

I use GrooveIP and have hit or miss results. Sometimes, it works great and you could hardly tell you're on a VOIP connection, other times is sucks. Since I don't like talking on the phone, I see this as a benefit. If I have a really important call to make, I just turn it off.

You can try Talkatone. I think that I have used it once or twice, but don't remember what the call quality was like. I haven't had a real need for VOIP calling yet, as 100 minutes on those lines is more than enough.

I'm happy with the free Vonage app. Free calling to any number in the US. I only use it on wifi though, so YMMV depending on your connection.

Wait until 5/14. Apps like that will stop functioning with Google Voice anyway. See what alternatives come up around then.
