I got my replacement Nexus 5 and...
It's not the new version. I talked with Google on Friday and I got the replacement today.
Speaker holes are the same and I still have a loose power button, even if it is slightly less wiggly.
It also shipped with 4.4...i was surprised it didn't already have 4.4.2.

311 is the new batch of devices with the fixes. Not sure about 312.

Re: I got my replacement Nexus 5 and...
I have been keeping track of the nexus 5 and which models have been in stock. The 32Gb got a restock like a week or 2 ago and i think that was still the older version because they still probably had some in the warehouse. The 16gb never has reached the "in stock" stage like the 32Gb did so i think until the current 32gb models sells out you wont get the new model.

Re: I got my replacement Nexus 5 and...
I got mine yesterday. It's the newer version & it's a 312. Honestly I think its the luck of the draw whether you get one or not

It's the serial number.
Hmm, I thought 311 was the newer model. Guess not, which means 312 is the one?

310, 311, or 312 do not necessarily indicate an updated build, the last two digits indicate the month of manufacture. That said I would expect most of not all 312's to be the newer build.

What part of the serial number are you using because I don't see any of those numbers at all in my serial number

Check the bottom of the box. It'll be the first 3 numbers beside S/N

Re: I got my replacement Nexus 5 and...
My serial number for my launch day Nexus 5 32gb black starts with 031b. Any idea what that means?

Who knows. I ordered mine on 11/3 and it's from the 311 batch, but it doesn't exhibit any of the noted defects.

I looked at the "about phone" section on my phone and the first three numbers for my sn are 039... any idea what that means (if it makes a difference I bought mine at a sprint store the day it Launched for Sprint)

The 'About Phone' s/n is different than the one on the box.

Re: I got my replacement Nexus 5 and...
I had the rattling power button issue on my 311K version and requested an RMA on Dec 17. The 311K version replaced my first 310K version as that phone had the so called dim yellow tinted display that looked awful compared to my N4 in terms of whites. Received replacement phone yesterday and to my surprise it was a 310K version. Comparing them side by side, it is obvious that the 311K version has the slightly larger speaker holes and buttons. Funny enough, even with the smaller speaker holes and thinner buttons, the 310K version has slightly louder volume output (trivial) and the power button feels better attached to phone and has a more solid click to it when pressed. Also, I find that the 310K version has a less sharp bottom edge where the glass meets the bottom bezel when you slide your finger across it. That being said, I do not think there is any difference in performance attained from the button sizes and speaker holes. The rattling button issue is probably related to how meticulous the person putting them on the phone was. The speaker hole size really doesn't make any difference for volume loudness especially since the 4.4.2 update.
