How do I know if I'm on 4G connection?

I called my carrier and asked to have 4G enabled, they sent me a new SIM, and I've put it in. I was in Central London today but I didn't notice any difference in speed. Here's a screenshot of my phone details. Is it connected to 4G? I sometimes see E, G and H on my network bars, which one is 4G?

That will depend on your carrier's definition of 4G. Some carriers will call HSPA+ as 4G, while others will call LTE as 4G
Check your carrier's definition of 4G

Also, in Settings --> Mobile network - check to see that Network mode is LTE or global

Edit: do you have the US version or the rest of the world version of Nexus 5? (820/821) The US version supports LTE for the US carriers, but has limited support for the LTE bands used overseas. The 821 has support for more LTE bands used overseas

Looking at your first picture, it looks like your on HSPA because of the H on your status bar.

Looks like you might be on HSPA. Here's what my status screen says on the Three network:

Mine says LTE in the 'mobile network type' section and 4G in the upper right corner.

Try downloading the speedtest app ( https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...d=org.zwanoo.android.speedtest&token=5ljQjmZK) to see how fast your connection is. 4G should be above 10Mbits, possibly around 20Mbits I think.

OK, I'll call my operator (TESCO) again, and ask them what's up.
Good idea. Ask them what type of network do they have - is it LTE? or HSPA+? or something else?

Also, if it is a LTE network,

Called them and they said my account hasn't been upgraded to 4G even though they just sent me a new sim for 4G duh. I have to wait 10 days because of the billing cycle or something, I'm on a one month rolling contract. So when that happens I should be set.
