Not seeing LAN directories with file manager on nexus 5
I have a nexus 5 with lollipop and I am trying to view files over WiFi on a Windows 7 computer. I have the directories I want to see shared on the Win 7 machine and I have a file exploring app installed (I have tried both File Manager and X-Plore apps). I can see the computer in both apps just fine (the server) and I see some directories that I want to access. But when I click on those directories it just says that the "directory is empty". It's obviously not and I can see the things in those directories on every device (windows laptops) but not on the Nexus 5. Am i doing something wrong? Frustrating.
UPDATE: Figured it out. I was logging into the windows machine from the Nexus 5 as "anonymous" which wasn't correct for the permissions. I had to enter in the account info for the windows machine in the file explorer on the Nexus 5 and then the permissions were correct and I could see all of the files.
