NEXUS 6 ASCENDING/INCREASING RING: FIXED. Yeeeeeeeeah!!!
I *had* the same problem since the first day of use of my N6 until... yesterday! The upgrade from Lollipop to Marshmallow didn't fix it, as I hoped. The only things I did yesterday are the following:
1. I uninstalled Google Launcher directly from the Google Play Store
2. I uninstalled Google directly from the Google Play Store
TIP: Search "Google Now" on the Play Store. Two results appear in the following screen. Tap the first result and uninstall it. Go back, tap the second one and uninstall it as well.
Then I reinstalled both. After that, I had to rebuild my home screen manually, my folders and so on. A lil disappointing, but it took just 10 minutes (and a couple of blasphemies... helpful, as usual). You can take a screenshot of your home screen (powerbutton+volumedown), first. This will help you rebuild everything.
3. I changed the ring from "default" to... the same ring but with its name, choosing it from the stock helper app "Media Storage". I did the same with Google Messenger and Whatsapp.
4. I installed the official LinkedIn app.
Magically, the increasing ring has disappeared. The funny thing is that I was trying to fix a different problem! :-)
I imagine that both LinkedIn and Whatsapp doesn't matter...! I'm just telling you *all* the things I did.
Let me know if it works, please. If it does, I'll disseminate this information all over the web, since a lot of people have this problem which, as I've understood, must be a software bug and not a hardware lock or a hardware bug as I red in certain forums.
